I got into cyber – by enlisting in the U.S. Air Force right after high school. Cyber Systems was on my short list of jobs I shared with my recruiter, and an opening was available, so I took it!
The skill that set me up for success – would have to be determination. Cyber is a large encompassing career field, it is both complex and incredibly important work. So being successful meant overcoming the learning curves, the mistakes, and being committed to the vision of being a cyber professional.
My top tip to those interested in transitioning to a career in cybersecurity is – to learn in passing a bit about everything you can in the space. I believe interest is a vital factor in success. By finding what interests you most, you therefore will increase your determination and drive to pursue that very thing.
I would tell my younger self – to keep shooting your shots.
