I got into cyber – through my desire to create equitable futures. In our societies and world, there are so many opportunities where technology can help us live more just and meaningful lives. However, tech has vulnerabilities, may exasperate inequities, and can foster human over-dependency. Cyber is a great career that connects people and tech in thoughtful ways for both security and prosperity.
For me, a positive cyber mindset is – one of intentional curiosity, imagination, moral courage, systems design, and thoughtfulness into the right relationship with both living systems and tech systems.

What’s next for me after retirement? – As Commander Kim Young-McLear sets out to retire from 20 years of service to the nation, she will be pursuing her dreams of more creatively incorporating music, art, tech, and futurism in her advocacy to grow flourishing and equitable futures across a wide spectrum of institutions and communities.
